Thank you to everyone who participated in and donated to our 2nd Annual FUUB Microcredit Mother’s Day Walkathon on Sunday, May 9th — we did it!  We enjoyed a very breezy 10K walk through Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights and we successfully raised over $5000 to fund our 3rd Village Bank in Haiti through FINCA.  Now it’s on to Bank #4!

FYI – save the date:  Sunday, May 8th, 2011 — 3rd Annual Mother’s Day Walkathon.

Yay of the day goes to the Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas for ordaining gay and lesbian deacons.  Founded in 1952, Royal Lane was one of the first churches in their area on integrate their pews and ordain women as deacons.  Their latest act of righteousness has caused their ouster from the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  As one of their deacons was quoted as saying, “To say something is wrong with homosexuals is to say God made a mistake.  I can’t buy into that.”  (source: The Week).

About Us

FUUB Microcredit is a social justice affinity group of the First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn, New York. Our mission is to raise money and awareness for microcredit projects. Microcredit is the extension of small loans (microloans) to the desperately poor to spur entrepreneurship and allow them to lift themselves out of poverty. In 2008 we funded our first microbank through FINCA’s Village Banking program. Our goal is to start two new banks in 2009. Click here to donate now!*
